Overview
CloudFront edge locations are all around the world, but the cost of data out varies per edge location. Pricing depends on the continent or geographic region of the edge location.
Data-Out Pricing
| Example | Price |
|---|---|
| Mexico, United States, Canada - first 10 TB | $0.085 per GB |
| India - same tier | $0.17 per GB (about twice) |
| United States - over 5 PB out | $0.02 per GB |
- The more data transferred out, the lower the cost.
- Moving across the pricing table from left to right means a higher cost.
Price Classes
You can reduce the number of edge locations used by your distribution to cut cost.
| Price Class | Regions | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Price Class All | All regions | Best performance, highest cost (e.g. an India edge costs more than a US edge) |
| Price Class 200 | Most regions, excludes the most expensive | Middle option |
| Price Class 100 | Only the least expensive regions (North America and Europe) | Lowest cost |
Price Class 100 gives North America and Europe. Price Class 200 adds some more regions. Price Class All covers the entire world.
Need to lower CloudFront cost and can accept fewer edge locations -> pick Price Class 200 or 100.
