Overview
AWS App2Container (A2C) is a CLI tool to migrate and modernize Java and .NET web applications into Docker containers.
It supports lift-and-shift migration: apps running on premises (bare metal, virtual machines, etc.) move to AWS. It accelerates modernization with no code changes, migrating legacy apps to the cloud.
What It Generates
- CloudFormation templates for compute, network and so on
- Generated Docker images registered in Amazon ECR
- Deployment to ECS, EKS or App Runner
- Support for prebuilt CI/CD pipelines
Workflow
- Use the CLI to discover and analyze which apps can be migrated.
- The app is extracted and containerized.
- Deployment artifacts are generated: CloudFormation templates with ECS Task and EKS Pod definitions, CI/CD if needed, and other infrastructure.
- Deploy to AWS. The image is stored in ECR and deployed on ECS, EKS or App Runner.
Migrate a Java or .NET web application to AWS containers simply -> AWS App2Container. That is the level of detail required.
